To ensure safe, controlled, and continuous monitoring of vessel/rig/barge access points under HSE ownership by maintaining accurate personnel tracking, verifying authorization to board in line with IMI requirements, preventing unauthorized entry, supporting emergency readiness, and maintaining safe housekeeping conditions around gangways. The role supports compliance with IMI HSE standards and safe marine operations through active monitoring, timely intervention, and escalation
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Monitor vessel/rig/barge entry points continuously and maintain an accurate, real‑time headcount of all personnel using the T‑Card / Entry Log system.
•Control access at the gangway and prevent unauthorized personnel from boarding; escalate any refusal/non-compliance immediately to the Safety Supervisor (and Security where required).
•Stop access/boarding immediately when unsafe conditions are observed at or near the gangway or when instructed via emergency communications; activate the required notification and escalation pathway (Safety Supervisor, and ERT as applicable) and support implementation of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
•Maintain safe access routes at all times by ensuring the gangway area is free from obstructions, hazards, or poor housekeeping conditions.
•Ensure clear and unobstructed pathways for Emergency Response Teams, including maintaining proper lighting, signage, and access readiness at the gangway.
•Monitor environmental and operational conditions around the gangway, reporting abnormalities such as vessel movement, weather risks, or equipment hazards.
•Direct personnel safely toward the designated assembly point during emergency evacuation and support orderly movement off the vessel/rig/barge.
•Remain stationed at the gangway as the primary duty, maintaining continuous monitoring; do not undertake secondary tasks that could reduce vigilance or delay response, except for authorized relief/breaks or when directed by the Safety Supervisor.
•Adhere to IMI working hour requirements, follow assigned weekly schedules (regular or shift-based), and remain in the operational area/field for the duration of the shift except for authorized breaks, relief, or when instructed otherwise by the direct supervisor.
•Perform any additional HSE‑related tasks assigned by the direct supervisor
Education
High school or vocational certificate (minimum).
OSHA 30
•Basic HSE Awareness Training (preferred).
•Marine safety or gangway control training (advantage).
•First Aid & CPR (preferred).
•Basic Firefighting Training (preferred).
Competencies
Strong situational awareness and hazard recognition skills.
•Ability to communicate clearly with personnel and emergency responders.
•Understanding of marine access safety requirements.
•Ability to maintain accurate logs and documentation.
•Ability to act quickly and calmly during emergencies.
Experience
3 years of experience in marine operations, shipyard activities, or HSE field roles (preferred).
